
PhD Awards
The William F. Ballhaus, Jr. Prize for Excellence in Graduate Engineering Research is the Viterbi School’s Best Dissertation Award.
The nominees of the Best Dissertation Award are reviewed by a faculty committee. The finalists present their research at the Best Dissertation Symposium where the final winner is selected.
The Best Research Assistant Award honors one exceptional student from each academic department within the Viterbi School of Engineering. This award, inclusive of a $250 prize, recognizes the significant research contributions of the recipients. Eligible for both graduating and continuing Ph.D. students, this award not only acknowledges their academic excellence but also their impactful role in advancing their respective fields. The awardees will be celebrated at the Graduate Student Awards Ceremony, underscoring their dedication and achievements in research.
The Jenny Wang Excellence in Teaching Award celebrates outstanding teaching assistants in the Viterbi School of Engineering. This $300 award recognizes one exemplary TA from each of the eight departments, highlighting their commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship. Eligible to both graduating and continuing Ph.D. students, the award winners are acknowledged at the Graduate Student Awards Ceremony, showcasing their significant contributions to the educational mission of the school.
The Viterbi School of Engineering recognizes PhD students who have been actively engaged in mentoring undergraduate student researchers. Each academic department selects one recipient to receive a $250 prize and be recognized at the Graduate Awards Dinner.
MS Awards
Each department selects candidates who encompass great academic achievements, outstanding leadership, and a commitment and/or impact on the Viterbi community.
