Spring 2020 Important Information for PhD Students

November 18, 2019

Dear PhD Students,

Please read below for important information about the upcoming Spring 2020 semester.

Registration Deadline

If you have not already registered for the Spring semester, please do so as soon as possible. We recommend you register by December 20, 2019.

Dates and Deadlines

Please visit PhD Important Dates and Deadlines to review important dates and deadlines for the upcoming Spring 2020 semester.

Enrollment Requirement

International PhD students and all PhD students receiving funding are required to be enrolled full-time, which is six (6) units that will count towards your degree program. Classes taken Pass/No Pass or Audit will not count. Note: 794 A, B, C, D, or Z, and GRSC 800 fulfill this full-time requirement. Please consult your faculty and departmental advisors regarding your specific course requirements and obtain any necessary D-clearances. If you have not already registered for fall courses, please do so as soon as possible. If you are an international student, improper registration may violate the terms of your visa and will cause you to fall out of status. If you have additional visa-related questions, please contact OIS at ois@usc.edu or (213) 740-2666.

Tuition Refund Insurance

Tuition Refund Insurance is optional, however, if you choose it you are responsible for paying this fee. You may reject Tuition Refund Insurance at the time of registration. If you have already accepted Tuition Refund Insurance, but would like to opt-out, please visit Opt-Out Tuition Refund Insurance.

Fees

All fellowship students who are registered for Spring classes will have the $75 Engineering Access Fee waived on their account by 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 9. If this charge still shows up on your account AFTER 5 p.m. on January 9, email Tracy Charles at tcharles@usc.edu. Please email Tracy only if there is a problem with your account, or you do not receive an expected payment.

Financial Account

It is your responsibility to check your USCe.pay account to ensure your account it up to date and you have not accrued late fees or finance charges. Please visit Student Accounts for more information about student accounts. If you are unsure what is your responsibility to pay, please email Tracy Charles at tcharles@usc.edu prior to the payment deadline date.

If you recently received an external fellowship for the upcoming academic year, please email your offer letter to phd@vase.usc.edu.
