The Viterbi Graduate Student Association (VGSA) is excited to announce that the Graduate Pathways to STEM (GPS) Conference is coming to Southern California! The SoCal GPS Conference is sponsored by the USC Viterbi School of Engineering in collaboration with the founders of the Bay Area GPS Conference (Hector Perez, Ph.D. & Maribel Jacquez, PhD), Emily Anne Vargas (USC SHPE Grad Representative), Lauro Sebastian Ojeda (VGSA President), & the VGSA Ambassador program partners!
The purpose of The SoCal GPS Conference is to inspire the next generation of leading innovators and scientists with advanced degrees in Academia, Industry, and Government. The SoCal GPS Conference is a one-day conference where attendees participate in informative workshops bringing awareness to the graduate school preparation/application process alongside the prospects available with an advanced degree post-graduation for both MS and PhD.
The SoCal GPS Conference promotes graduate school opportunities to underrepresented minorities, first generation, and low income individuals residing in Southern California and neighboring areas. This event is open for any student and professional who has an interest in graduate school or wants to better understand how a graduate degree can fit into their professional goals and personal aspirations.
The SoCal GPS Conference will feature various workshops that will encompass the various steps and procedures that go into deciding to go to and apply for graduate school. The SoCal GPS Conference will also feature informal breakout sessions in which students will be placed into smaller groups and have the opportunity to have more intimate conversations with current graduate students, academic faculty/representatives, and industry professionals - all with various types of engineering graduate degrees!
