Overview
Flaunt your department pride during Viterbi Department Wars! From Monday, September 13th through Thursday, September 16th, Viterbi students can build community within their department while facing off against the other engineering departments in friendly rivalry. Students can sign up to participate in daily competitions or cheer on their fellow classmates, both activities earn points for their department on the leaderboard. See the daily schedule below and be sure to RSVP.
The department with the most points at the end of the week is awarded an outdoor movie night in the Engineering Quad on Friday evening, September 17th! In addition to the daily activities, students can also contribute their spare change in the Penny Wars contest. Drop your pennies in your department jar to win positive points. Drop your silver coins in other department jars to count as negative points. Check the leaderboard each day to see where your department stands!
What better way to show your department love, than contributing to your department banner? Meet in the Engineering Quad each day at 4:00 pm Trojan Time. Whether you're a natural with a paintbrush in your hand, or better with pencil and an eraser, or maybe your gift is cheering on from the side, show up and support your department!

Penny Wars
What is a Penny War?
A penny war is a friendly competition. Every department will contribute coins to department jars. Different coins are worth different points, some coins are also worth negative coins! At the end, the department with the maximum points wins. Here are the rules for playing Penny Wars!
- 1 penny = 1 point For every penny that each department deposits into their own jar, they earn 1 point. The team with the most pennies/points by the end of the penny war wins!
- Other coins are negative points! By depositing nickels, dimes, and quarters (5 points, 10 points, and 25 points each respectively) into rival departments’ containers, you can deduct points from your competitors.
