Please read the message carefully and be aware of such scams.

Scammers are targeting international students in Southern California. DPS has received 3 scam case reports in the last 3 months, which involved losses from students ranging from $4,000 to $20,000.  Scammers contacted students claiming that they were from Department of Homeland Security, IRS, and Immigration Departments and processing investigation on your status in the U.S. or offering discounted school tuition rates. Students were asked to purchase gift cards for large amount of money.

Please note that government or law enforcement departments will never all individual’s number to request money transfer over the phone call. Please NEVER provide personal information or money to anyone who has contacted you by phone, email, internet or in person

If you are contacted by any such person do not give any personal information and contact the USC Department of Public Safety immediately.

Check out the USC DPS website for more tips to avoid scams.
